BRILLIANT SHOW OF ROSES AT BULLS

The Church of England Rose Show at Bulls on Monday was a great spectacle. Mr. Frank Mason, the well-known Feilding rose specialist, who has been judging at the show for the past 35 years, said he has seen some very fine displays at Bulls in that time, but the fixture on this occasion had eclipsed them all—for quality of blooms and the heavy entry. Another judge, Mrs. D. Scott, of Aokautere, said the entries in the decorative class were the best she had ever been called on to judge. An innovation which proved a boon in the particularly humid atmosphere in the hall, was the use of water vases for the entries, and the stewards who worked so hard setting the classes out were well repaid for their efforts. The Rangitikei Rose Society lent invaluable aid to the promoters, who had, in Mrs. L. C. Torrens and Miss Margaret Willis, two very able organising secretaries. Those in charge of stalls did good business to the tune of over £2OO. The champion rose of the show, a magnificent specimen of “McCready’s Yellow,” was exhibited by Mr. R. O. Dalrymple who found intensely keen competition from kindred growers. PRIZE LIST Roses, Section A, Open:—Twentyfour blooms, L. G. Moss 1, J. C. Glover 2; twelve blooms, J. C.
