INQUIRY INTO START OF JUVENILE EVENT

AUCKLAND, Last Night (Special). —lt is not often these days that inquiries are held into happenings at the barrier when a bad start has been made, but one was instituted at Te Rapa last 'week after the second division of the two-year-old event. This was won by the gelding Archbishop (Royal Arch-Stainless).

The decision was announced that the cause of the bad start was that one horse swung round and stopped two others. It. was such a bad despatch that the starter might have been justified in calling it. a false start, but even if lie had done so there was no method by which the riders could have been advised other than by shouting The winner of this heat, Archbishop, was a big outsider, and his win dividend was close to two score, with over a baker’s dozen for a place. The winner races in the colours ot Mr Alex Harvey, who has not had much luck of late since he lost Lucky Alex in a cross-country race at Te Rapa last May. It was a coincidence that his luck turned on the same course.

Archbishop finished strongly and had apparently benefited by the experience he had gained in his first run at Whahgarei last month. Motunach revealed plenty of pace, but weakened when Archbishop and then Earldom threatened danger. Earldom is in the same ownership as Correspond and is a lilcely improver. Classowa looked all over a winner of the first division of the two-year-old event a hundred yards from home but Garno again finished with a very good burst to beat him, and seems ilkely to devel--.fi into a stayer. A fair amount of support came for Loder, the brother of Bridge Acre, AlSirat and Lord Barwon, and halfbrother to Chubin, and he will improve considerably upon his fifth placing.
