SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs J. M. Haldane and her mother, Mrs Hyde, left Wanganui on Thursday evening for Auckland, en route to England. Sister M. C. Bakewell, of Tauranga and formerly of Wanganui, is at sent staying in the city. Among the callers at New Zealand House, London, recently were Miss EUa M. Davis and Miss Phyllis Lange, of Wanganui, Miss Mary Woodward, “Miss New Zealand,” will be a passenger on the Akaroa, which is expected to sail from London about the middle of November and due in New Zealand just before Christmas. Miss M. Reid, B.Sc., who is a Wanganui student at the Deaconess College, Dunedin, has massed her second year of the advanced course in all subjects. This is reported by the Theological Hall Committee of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. Bride-to-be Entertained Miss Ailsa Mitchell, Somme Parade, Upper Aramoho, whose wedding takes place today, was entertained by a large number of friends at a cocktail party held on Wednesday in the Rutland Hotel lounge. Today’s Sale of Work A sale of work will be held this afternoon by the Durie Hill Plunket sub-branch at the residence of Mrs A. J. Burtt, Fife Street, Durie Hill There will be all the usual stalls. If the weather is unfavourable the sale will take place in the Baden Powell Hall. Hallowe’en Party Decorations of witches, cats and similar Hallowe'en emblems were arranged in the gymnasium of the Wanganui Y.W.C.A. on Monday night when members of the Business Girls Lyceum held a Hallowe'en party. Among the 36 present were members of the 20th Century and Eveiygirls' Clubs who were guests of the evening. Many were dr-issed in character for the programme of appropriate games and competitions which began with a "mystery walk." In charge were the president, Miss C. Alexander, Misses I. Reading (secretary), S. Rush, J. Barnes and A. Barrett, the latter rontributing an eerie ghost story.
