NORMAL WORK TO BE RESUMED ON THE AUCKLAND WATERFRONT
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— Normal work will be resumed on the Auckland waterfront at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning. On the direction of the national executive of the Waterside Workers’ Union, for the first time since October 25, Auckland unionists will accept non-union replacements for overtime tomorrow. The Waterfront Industry Commission will consider submissions by the Union and employers on Monday on overtime replacement. The disputes representative of the shipping compares stated this afternoon that employers would continue to discharge men if they left their work without permission. The dispute began as a retaliatory move by the union against the companies’ campaign to reduce “spelling.” The return to work will ensure the despatch by the Rangitoto of the last consignment, of Christmas food parcels for Britain, a company official stated. The Rangitoto will leave Auckland on Saturday afternoon.
