New Kind Of Crook Is Classified By Scotland Yard

LONDON, Nov. 2 (Recd. 9pm>.—A new kind of crook has been categorised by Scotland Yard. He is "the placer,” who acts as middleman between thieves and receivers, though he never sees either or even the stolen goods. Tlie placer lives by telephone. He is the confidant of both the thieves and the buyers, and he is trusted by them. After a burglary the thief telephones the placer and tells him what he has to sell. The placer then arranges for the buyers to view the stolen property. He then obtains offers which he transmits to the thief, and on acceptance, arranges the transport of the stolen goods to the receiver.—N.Z.P.A. Correspondent.
