Political Freedom For Half Of British Civil Servants Is Granted

LONDON, Nov. 2 (Recd. 9 p.m.)— About half of the British civil service —those engaged in industrial work and in minor grades—are to have complete freedom to take part in all forms of national and local political activity. This Government decision, announced in the House of Commons last night, puts into effect the recommendation by the committee appointed to find out whether the civil service rules on political activity needed modifying. However, the Government has decided to postpone until the end of next year decision on the committee’s recommendation for 470,000 other civil servants of the senior grades. The departmental rules regarding the political activities of these members are to continue for the present.— Reuter.
