Doubles “Tote” May Be Used At Greymouth
GREYMOUTH, Last Night (i’A). - Two days after the Gaming Amendment Act, passed in the last session of Parliament, comes into force the doubles totalisator will be in operation at the Westland Racing Club's meeting at Hokitika or December 17. It not the first doubles totalisator, this will certainly be one of the first four to operate in New Zealand since 1906. Three other race meetings are to be held on December 17, at Levin, Ohinemuri and Tapanui. After the Westland meetin ’ the doubles totalisator will probably operate at other meetings on the Coast holiday circuit. Equipment for operating the doubles totalisator is already on the West Coast, according to Mr H. D. James, of Greymouth, who operates the totalisator at Coast meetings. Some aspects of th.? system remain to be settled by the Department of Internal Affairs.
