Store Sheep Were In Keen Demand At Wanganui Sale
Store sheep met with a keen sale at Freeman R. Jackson and Co.’s Wanganui sale yesterday, when there was a firming tendency on recent values. Fat sheep were a shade easier. A yarding of 700 head of cattle met with an erratic sale. Female cattle sold well and there was a total clearance but male cattle were hard of sale and passings were frequent. Sales made- however, were up to late rates. The bullocks penned lacked condition and growth. Prices were as follow: Sheep: Fat ewes, 26s to 28s; fat woolly hoggets, 45s 3d to 45s 4d; shorn hoggets, 38s to 39s 9d; store 2th. weth- i
ers 37s to 38s 9d; small. 32s 3d to 335; Down cross, 36s 6d; woolly ewes and lambs, 30s 4d, all counted. Cattle: Heavy prime heifers, to £18; ditto cows, to £l5; boner cows, £4 10s to £8 10s; 3-year P.A. steers, to £l5 15s; yearling Hereford steers, £9 to £lO 10s; store Hereford and P.A. cows £lO 2s 6d to £ll 12s; 3-year P.A. and Hereford heifers, to £l2 10s; 2-year, £9 5s to £lO 10s; yearling Jersey heifers, medium, £7 10s to £9 15s; Jersey bulls, 2-year, £lO 2s 6d to £l2 ss; yearlings, £6 10s to £lO 2s 6d; calved Jersey heifers, £l3 to £l5. I Pigs: Choppers, to £4 ss; light baconers- to £5 14s; light porkers, to I £4 Is; weaners, 33s to 50s.
