LABOUR DAILY SAYS NO EARLY ELECTION LIKELY IN BRITAIN
LONDON, Oct. 4 (Recd. 6pm).— There will be no general election in 1949, says the political correspondent of the Labour Party organ “Daily Herald.” He acids: “Expectations of an autumn general election, created by the wishful thinking of the Tory press and politicians, are receding. There has never been any solid basis for the wild predictions of the views of Labour leadership on this matter. The plain facts are that on the known circumstances of the situation, both at Home and internationally, there will be no general election this year. Unforeseeable circumstances might arise which would justify a speedy appeal to the country, but only the most serious th ret t to the national well-being, which could only bo met by an appeal to the nation, would upset the Government’s determination for a spring election.”
