WARNING AGAINST RECOGNITION OF COMMUNIST CHINA
HONGKONG, Oct. 4 (Recd. 10 pm). —Acting-President Lit Sung Jen warned that the attempt by foreign Powers to recognise the Chinese Communist regime would be regarded as an unfriendly act by the Chinese Government, reports the official Central New Agency. Li’s statement, it is believed, was aimed directly at the Western Powers, who possibly will be contemplating early recognition of General Mautsetung’s Government. United Press Washington correspondent says that foreign policy experts said today there appears to be no possibility that the United States will recognise the new Communist regime in China now, or for a long time to come. They said any Chinese regime will need the United States far more than this country needs China. Ey withholding recognition America should be able to gain an important “cold” war advantage Political quarters in Washington face without concern the possibility that British rt-eagmtion soon may be extended to the reds. Such a step would not mean any Anglo-American split on Far Eastern policy.
