Mr. N. M. Izard was re-elected president at last night’s annual meeting of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. A. O. Heany, secretary of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, was a visitor to Wanganui yesterday. Last night he addressed the annual meeting of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Heany returns to Wellington today. Mr. F. J. Fitts, vice-president of the Wellington Central branch of the Labour Party, has been selected as the Labour candilate for Waitomo. Mr Fitts, who is aged 34, is a civil servant employed in the Stores Control Board in Wellington. He served five vears with the home forces during World War IL—(P.A.). Mr. A. Weekes, whose death occurred recently, was remembered at the annual meeting of the West Coast (N. 1. Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association on Saturday night, when a motion of sympathy with his relatives was passed. Mr. Weekes was a member of the original Wanganui Athletic Club and patron of the centre for many years. Mr. William Morrison, of Maxwell, a former chairman of the Waitotara County Council and of the Wanganui Harbour Board and a tnember of the Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board, will attend an investiture at Government House today. Mr. Morrison was awarded the 0.8. E. in the King’s Birthday Honours. Mr. J. B. D. Pennink, Netherlands Minister in New Zealand, said yesterday that he would leave on October 14 by air for Sydney en route to New Caledonia where he will be Holland’s senior representative at the fourth session of the South Pacific Commission. Mr. Pennink is anxious to return by the end of this month in order to welcome new Dutch immigrants who have been demobilised from the army in Indonesia, the first party of whom is due at Auckland between October 24 and 28.-P.A.
