Greek Court, who had school the Rangitikei Hunt Cup at Mart tikei Hunt Club’s meeting attra main attraction was the Riddifr comparative outsider in Cheerful tham-trained candidate in the fax third, in the same berth as he title Weather conditions for the early races were excellent, but rain fell after the fifth race and there were further showers before the meeting concluded. The course was very heavy, and the ground in the car-parking area became very soggy. In spite of the unpromising conditions it was satisfactory to find the totalisator at £39,641 showing an increase of £6616 over the £33,024 handled at the 1948 meeting. GREEK COURT S HUNT CUP From the Awapuni stable which shelters Gaiety, Greek Court gave a fir? *spiay in th? Passing the stands the first time Barras had a clear lead from Greek Court, Sir Raleigh, The Trader, Pol- ’ lux, Money Machine, Wiremu and Old Joe. Running down the back Sir Raleigh and Money Machine deposed Barras from the lead, with Tne Trader, Wiremu, Greek Court and Oid Joe next. Money Machine slipped on landing over the brush fence at the top of the straight, and the second time past the stands Old Joe, Sir Raleigh and The Trader were jumping on terms ahead of Greek Court, Wiremu, Pollux and Barras. Greek Court ran up to Old Joe six furlongs from home, and The Trader and Sir Raleigh were well clear of Wiremu. Pollux and Barras. From this stage Greek Court always had the upper hand, outjumping Old Joe, and after clearing the last two fences in good style he went on to win with something in reserve. Old Joe was three lengths back, second, and eight lengths ahead of Sir Raleigh, who cut' down Wiremu in the last 20 yards. Then came The Trader, with Pollux the only other in sight. Barras lost his rider at the penultimate fence. New Deer was half a dozen lengths ahead at the half-mile, but Cheerful Night then started to close the gap and reached the front on the home turn, where Balcairn followed New Deer and Leyma and Merry Robin were making up ground. Running on solidly, Cheerful Night held off ma's challenge to win by a length and a-half. Merry Robin’s strong run carried him into third place, only half a length away. Olga’s Pal was a close fourth, and then came Grey Arch, New Deer, Balcairn and Flying Tor. The last-named received a check in the straight. The former hurdle horseman A. Midwood turned out another winner ! in Homespun, who took the honours in the Glenmore Maiden Steeples. After Christopher Wren had led early Kapai Chief took over to lead. Christopher Wren. Diplomacy disputed the lead early with Defence and was not afterwards headed. At the half-mile Silver Spur was almost on terms with the Philamor filly, and Blue Sky was in close attendance, ahead of Paddy Joe, Defence and Anthony. The last-named issued a strong challenge in the run home but Diplomacy held on to win by nearly three lengths. Six lengths back came Fox Court, with Silver Spur weakening into fourth, followed by Lady Moyra, Blue SKy and Croupier’s Song.
