Demonstration Of Toy Making At League Of Mothers' Meeting

A highlight of the meeting of the Wanganui League of Mothers held yesterday, was a demonstration of soft toy making given by Mrs. C. Simmons, who also displayed a number of skilfully-made toys, including lambs and dogs made from lambswool, kangaroo with young in pocket and other toys of felt. The demonstrator was warmly thanked and presented with flowers.

Mrs. J. P. Morrison (president), presided, and in her welcome specially mentioned six new members who were admitted to tiic league and took part in an admission service. The president read the aims and objects of the league and at the conclusion of the service the gathering repeated the league prayer followed by the Lord’s prayer. All stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with a member, Mrs. Evans, whose husband had died. Messages and flowers were sent to Mrs C. Lee, Mrs. G. Lints and 'Mrs. F. C. Jannings, who are ill. Mrs. Morrison expressed thanks to the Members Day committee for flowers received ana also thanked them for running their meeting so well. She also expressed thanks to those who had contributed gifts for babies received for “Childhaven” in Auckland. These gifts were on display on a stall and had been made ana donated by members in response to an appeal made by Miss Rice, a representative from “Childhaven,” who visiteu Wanganui about two months ago and gave an adress on the work none by the organisation who founded “Childhaven.” It was decided to hold a

bring and buy in September to assist the provincial. Members were reminded that nominations for the committee for the annual meeting are to be sent in by August 15. Mrs. H. Bellringer sang two songs, accompanied by Mrs R. H. Tizard. Mrs H. Morgan passed a vote of thanks to the demonstrator and singer. The door hostesses were Mesdames Sword and Sargeant.
