Good Shooting Seen On Marton Miniature Rifle Club Range
Shooting a friendly match with the British Legion of Frontiersmen on the Marton Miniature Rifle Club range recently, three members of the Marton Club, E. Green, K. Coles and N. Arangements have been completed for the annual Rangitikei Hunt Club ball to be held in the Civic Theatre tomorrow night. This ball is recognised as the social event of the season in Rangitikei and invariably attracts patrons from a wide circle. It was explained by a member of the club last night that the ball was not conlined to invitation holders only. It was open to the public who had always given good support in the past. A feature of the Hunt Club balls in the past has been the sumptuous supper and no stone is being left unturned to se e that patrons are being well catered lor in this direction. Music for the ball will be supplied by Marks' orchestra. The ball decorations will again be of a high order. The hunt ball is one ol the activities arranged to wind up the hunting season, in Rangitikei. The point-to-point was held last Saturday, and the ball tomorrow night will be followed by the race meeting at Marton on Saturday. REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY FIX- « TURES ON SATURDAY. There will be no club football in Rangitikei on Saturday because of the three representative matches and tne race meeting at Marton. As a curtain-raiser to the representative women’s hockey match at Marton on Saturday between Rangitikei and Taranaki, a game will be played between 'l'aihape and a team selected from the Rangitikei senior B grade teams. Players are asked to wear black gyms. ALL BLACK NEWS REEL AT CIVIC THEATRE. Marton Rugby football enthusiasts will welcome the announcement made yesterday by the manager of the Civic Theatre, Mr. G. Hogan, that an entertaining news reel of the football match between the All Blacks and the Combined Universities in Soutn Africa will be screened at the local theatre tonight and again on Friday. This film gives every highlight of the game, particular interest being shown in the much-discussed “channel” scrum as played by the South Africans. This film has created untold interest in the cities among Rugby followers, especially coaches, due io
the controversy over the scrum formations. For the convenience of thos e who are working on Friday night, special arrangements have been made for the screening of this film tonight. ROTARY CLUB. The speaker at the Marton Rotary Club tea on Monday night was Mr. L. H. Johnston, of the Department of Agriculture. He spoke on honey production, processing and refining. He said that New Zealand was the first country in the world to discover a satisfactory means of processing honey and still led the world in the technique. Mr. Johnston said there were 134,976 bee-hives in New Zealand, with the Dominion’s production averaging about 4000 tons a year. Tlie speaker was thanked for his address’by Mr. F. L. Nicol. PERSONAL. Mr. F. Parkinson, who has been appointed referee of the representative Rugby match between Rangitikei and Oroua seniors at Kimbolton on Saturday, is vice-president of the Manawatu Rugby Referees' Association and a former member of the Rangitikei Referees' Association.
