CREW OF TRIDALE WILL CONTINUE STRIKE TILL UNION’S DEMANDS MET
WELLINGTON,'Last Night (PA) The crew of the Canadian steamer Tridale held a meeting in Wellington today and decided to continue their strike in New Zealand until the Canadian Seamen’s Union is recognised as a “major bargaining organisation in the dispute and until the union’s other demands are met.” Announcing this tonight, the crew’s spokesman said the men took strong exception to the attitude taken up by the Canadian High Commissioner’s office in Wellington, whose statement the men claimed had given the public the wrong impression of the facts of the dispute. It hadTbeen alleged that there were only four Canadian ships still on strike, but in fact the total was much greater. Details were expected shortly. The Tridale men’s spokesman said it was reported to the crew at the meeting that the statement made recently purporting to come from the rival union crew of the Ottawa Valley at Auckland was in fact drawn up by the captain of the ship.
