Traffic Offences Dealt With In Bulls Court

BULLS, Last Night (OC).—Fines totalling £4 (costs £2) were imposed by Mr. A. Coleman, S.M., on Barry John Johnson, who faced four charges of breaches of the trallic regulations at a sitting of the Bulls Magistrate's Court this morning. Constable R. R. Pawsey prosecuted. On a charge of riding a motorcycle at night without a headlight, Johnson was convicted and fined £2 (costs 10s), and for not having a registration licence “sticker affixed in the prescribed manner on the cycle he was fined a further 10s (costs 10s). On the charges of not being the holder of a current driver'* licence and operating a motor-cycle without a warrant of fitness, he was fined £1 and 10s, respectively, costs in each case being 10s. Giving evidence, the constable said that he stopped defendant riding along Bridge Street, Bulls, at 8.5 p.m. on June 11- On inspecting the cycle he found that it carried no battery. Although the vehicle was fitted with number plates, there was no licence “sticker” affixed. Asked why he was driving without a licence, defendant said he was trying to gain experience in driving. Defendant had had a licence but had not renewed it for many years, said the traffic inspector, Mr. W. C. Shaw (Marton), when prosecuting Ernest Horace Lamb, who was charged with driving a motor-car in Bulls without a driver’s licence. Defendant pleaded guilty by letter and was fined £1 (costs 12s). Charge Of Consuming Liquor Near Dance Charged with being in possession of liquor in the vicinity of a dance hall, William Stanley Armitage was convicted and fined £3 (costs 10s) by Mr. A. Coleman, S.M., at a sitting of the Bulls Court this morning. Constable R. R. Pawsey, prosecuting, said that a dance was In progress in the Bulls Town Hall on May 24 when, at about 11.15 p.m., he saw defendant about 100 yards away with a partly consumed bottle of liquor in his possession. Defendant admitted he was attending the dance. Speeding Through Sanson To Attend Funeral BULLS, Last Night (OC).—Defendant explained that he was in a hurry to attend a funeral in Hamilton, said the traffic inspector, Mr. W. C. Shaw (Marton), when giving evidence against Trevor Graham Nelson, who was charged in the Bulls Court this morning with exceeding the 30 m.p.h. speed limit through SansonThe magistrate (Mr. A. Coleman): He might have been attending one in Bulls if he hadn’t been stopped. The inspector said he checked defendant’s speed through Sanson for three-quarters of a mile at 50 m.p.h. Defendant pleaded guilty by letter and was convicted and fined £2 (costs 10s).
