First Qualifying Round Of Wanganui Golf Club’s Championships
The first qualifying round for the Wanganui Golf Club’s senior, middleweight, and junior championships was played at Belmont on Saturday under good conditions. The seniors were headed by B. M. Silk with a 69, followed by W. K. Creighton on a handicap of 7, who returned the extremely good card of 70, a nett 63. Creighton was out in 36 and home in 34.

Kingan 80-12—68; A. K. Furrie 92-24—68; A. Kellick 78-9—69; A. Holrovd 83-14—69; W. G. Haggle 8314—69. A feature of the first round of the club championship foursomes which were completed recently was the excellent round of A. R. Kitto and V. B. Haworth, who in defeating J. P. Carde and B. D. Fitzgerald, returned a card of 69—a very good score for a foursome. Results in the first round were as follows: A. L. Temperton and U. G. Williams won from T. M. Alexander and I. D. Parsons 7 and 5; A. R. Kitto and V. B. Haworth won from J. P. Carde and B. D. Fitzgerald 8 and 6: B. M. Silk and H. G. Carver won from K. Brooks and W. G. Haggle 5 and 4; J. F. Collins and F. C. Hutchison won from R. Moore and F. G. Respinger 7 and 6. Handicap: M. A. Kitchen and O. Coupland won from N. B. Barkman and E. W. Cordingley; T. O. Cave and D. J. Armstrong won from R. L. Bradley and D. A. Cameron; G. W. Horne and I. Saunders won from W. M. Willis and A. K. Furrie; J. H. Henson and A. H. Boyes won from A. D. Wilson and D. G. Young at the 23rd. Results of the fourth round of the Imlay Cup are as follows: J. M. Hussey won from A. K. Hempton 5 and 3; E. Moss won from E. W. Sampson 1up: A. Webster won from V. B. Haworth 6 and 5; R. J. Shaw won from W. T. Kendrick 3 and 2; F. V. Wiggens won from R. Carew 3 and 2; H. T. Cox won from B. C. Scott 3 and 2; R. J. Baker won from K. Brooks 2 and 1. Cmr. Ellery to arrange. The Town Clerk (Mr. G. C. Burklnshaw) was granted leave to take his holidays during August. The Clerk reported that several residents of Moana Roa had offered to assist in marram planting if the Board would organise such an operation. The speaker stated that plants would be available from Mr. Amon’s property. The Bulls Football Club, on the application of Cmr. Westwood, is to be given permission to extend their dressing shed by utilising the iron walls of the existing building, augmented by timber supplied from trees growing on the recreation ground.
