Future Of C.O.R.S.O. To Be Discussed In Wanganui
The future activities of C.0.R.5.0. in Wanganui will be discussed at a meeting of the executive on Thursday night. For a long period activities have been directed in giving assistance to the New Zealander, Rewi Alley, and his co-operatives in China. Now that the situation has changed in that country matters are more difficult, and the need for support and assistance is greater than ever. The executive has received the latest newsletter from Rewi Alley, which covers a wide range of activity relating to the Santan Indusco Bailie School.
During April more than 333 ar were planted on the farm despite the unseasonable weather. Much of the boys’ work was in making terraced slopes possible for irrigation, building [barriers against Hooding land. I During the time the main body of istudents were working on the farm a |small group of boys went to Minlo to 'buy timber for summer repair work. I Although the financial situation is too | difficult for him and his associates t o 'go into any extensive construction
iwork this summer, there is much to 'be done on absolute essentials. Regarding the school mine, Rewi Alley said the main shaft of the mine is now 90ft., deep. All await the day when it will be no longer necessary to buy coal for the school needs. Mr Alley acknowledges the great and valued help given him and his associates by C.0.R.5.0. He states that without C.0.R.5.0.'s monthly grant they would not be able to carry on. as other regular funds failed to materialise.
