| MARTON, Last Night (OC).—Fai ■ voured with a mild day- the Rangitikei ‘Hunt Club’s annual point-to-point J i steeplechases, held on Mr L. ri. S- ) | Marshall’s property, Fern Flats, Marlton, on Saturday, attracted patrons from all parts ot the lower portion ol i the Nortn Island. More than 800 paid ) for admission, and the fixture was (voted a success in every way. I Good entries were received for the ’ I seven events. The three steeplecnases >; on the afternoon's programme were ’ lull of interest in which there were ’ plenty of spills, and although . many r riders parted company with their )1 horses, neither horses nor riders suf--1 lered any ill-effects. i | The Lupton family from Waverley i . returned home with four trophies. i Their horses won two steeplecnases ' and Mr E. Lupton, who rode the win- | ners, was presented with a trophy for 9 each success.' (J] The other steeplechase, the Charles J Simpson Memorial, was won by the j I Master of the Rangitikei Hunt, Mr F i)! McLean- with his horse St. Louis, who J) thus repeated his success of the preJ ; vious week when he won the heavyj weight point-to-point at Manawatu. 91 The trophy for this race was a silver i) | salver, presented by Mrs Duncan [) ’ Simpson in memory of her son D j Charles, who was killed overseas during the war. The late Mr C. Simpson n was a prominent and popular memoer Oof the Rangitikei Hunt Club ana was o always a competitor in the heavyweight point-to-point with his horse Blue Peter. i The jumping events were all won 5! by Rangitikei horses, but outsiders all 7 1 secured their share of prizes in the ?; minor placings. j At the conclusion of the meeting j I the Master, Mr h\ McLean, presented aI the trophies and "thanked ail those °iwho had assisted in any way to uiaKe [J the hunting season sucn a success.
