WANGANUI RUGBY LEAGUE MATCHES; AOTEA BEAT CITY

Matches under the control of the Wanganui Rugby League were continued on Saturday. Aotea defeated City by 22 points to 12. The game was not productive of a good exhibition of the code, the players lacking finish to their movements. City began on a strong note and looked as if they were going to “walk away’’ with the gEvme and at half-time led 12-3. In the second half of the match City lapsed into errors and this, with a disinclination to tackle, saw the game slip from their grasp. Teaming to better purpose Aotea attacked with solid rushes, which City failed to halt and winning points were scored in quick succession. For Aotea tries were scores by Chadwick, Hunt, Wright, Blake and D. Smith. Both Smith and Blake converted tries.

Trie s for City were scored by McClintock (2), Murray and Martin.

For Aotea Smith was the best player, both on attack and defence. Phillips played soundly on the wing. Nikora was a hard working forward City players who caught the eye were Murray, the McClintock brothers and Lomas.
