VOLUNTARY WORKERS RARELY NAMED IN N.Z. HONOURS LISTS

PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Last Night (P.A.)—Lack of recognition in the Honours lists for workers in voluntary organisations was criticised by Mr. G. F. Sim (Opp., Waikato), when the second reading debate on the Fire Services Bill was continued in the House of Representatives this afternoon. He said he wondered if the Government had any appreciation of the work done by these organisations, because voluntary workers were rarely included in Honours lists. A Government Member: Why don’t you recommend some? Mr. Sim said there was no greater voluntary organisation than the Plunket Society, which for the past two years had recommended its president for some recognition, but without result The Red Cross and volunteer fire brigades were also well worthy of recognition
