SANDY'S CORNER
“Cats are lucky,” reads an art union heading, and beside it is printed a picture of a pretty girl and a kitten. Bill has asked us which is the cat? WHAT’S LEFT. Notice in a shop window near the golf links at Rose Bay, Sydney: “No gas, no power, no cakes; shop for sale." If it was in Wanganui we’d say ring Harry May. SHEEP BUT NO WOLVES. Mr. Fraser’s expression of opinion, at last night’s military training meeting in Wanganui—that the interjectors at his meeting were plain sheep, and had no wolves’ clothing—will doubtless be of comfort to the young ladies of this fair city. W’e have sheep but no wolves. PHAR LAP. “Toots”: Our information is that Phar Lap’s skin is in a museum in Melbourne and the skeleton is in New Zealand. It is reported that Melbourne was very incensed that only the skin came the way of the Victorian capital and that New Zealand got the bon?s New Zealand's reply was: We bred him. HE WAS SUNG INTO IT. The Prime Minister was sung into a promise yesterday by girls of the Wanganui Girls' College. The girls sang to him that they wanted a “whole new college.” not just a science block. Such was the reaction on the P.M. that we have telegraphed Mr. Holland: “Dear Sir: Suggest that when next you badly want the Government to do something, sing to them; we would prefer songs from Parliament rather I han some of the debates we are accustomed to hearing. If girls of Giles’ College here can sing the Prime Minister into promises, surely the Opposition can.” What’s that Mum? You would rather see promises kept than promises broken? Oh well, if this promise isn't kept we’ll get the boys at the Collegiate School to sing to the Government of the day to keep it. Thai would be chivalrous we think, and the Government would surely respond chivalrously to a chivalrous deed.
