PATROL CAR OUTDATED

The need for a new patrol car for use by City Council traffic inspectors when patrolling city and suburban areas and checking speeding motorists or careless and dangerous drivers was emphasised by the chief inspector (Mr Tipper) in his report. “It is sometimes necessary to follow such motor vehicles and we find th e small car at present at our disposal definiteunsuitable," he stated. “It is quite obvious that in trying to measure up to larger and more powerful motor vehicles driving becomes dangerous unless one has a vehicle of a type suitable for that class of work. I would again urge that serious consideration should be given to the purchase of a car of suitable horse-power and design which, fitted with the loud-speak-er attachment, would b e invaluable in the control of'traffic and in keeping with modern practice,” the report added.
