Sing Sing Prisoner Gives Blood To Save Life Of Young Girl

NEW YORK, June 6 (Recd 6 pm)—An unnamed Sing Sing prisoner. whose bloodstream doctors last week joined To that of a young girl suffering from leukaemia, had shown no ill effects, the warden, Mr William Snyder, of Sing Sing, said today.

Doctors had feared the deadly white cells from the girls blood might transfer the disease to him. Mr Snyder said the prisoner was working in the prison hospital while the doctors waited to see if he suffered any ill effects. Doctors joined the prisoner’s bloodstream by a rubber tubing with that of the girl at a hospital in an effort to purify the child’s blood of wildly spreading white blood ceils, characteristic of leukaemia. The hospital reported todav that the girl had returned home, but her doctor had not yet reported on the effects of the experiment. Mr Snyder said recommendations on behalf of the prisoner undoubtedly would be sent To the Governor. He revealed that 12 prisoners had volunteered for the experiment.
