RANGITIKEI ACCEPTS AUG. 20 AS BEDDINGTON SHIELD CHALLENGE DATE
A representative programme was arranged by the management committee of the Rangitikei Rugby-sub-union at a meeting in Marton on Tuesday night The most important engagement is a match against Horowhenua for the Bebbington Shield at Levin The holders have offered Saturday, August 20, for the fixture, and Rangitikei has accepted this date A senior representative match is to be played against Taihape at Taihape on June 18 for the Pownall Trophy, at present held by Taihape A third grade representative match between the two sub-unions is to be played at Ohingaiti on the same date Taihape also suggested a junior representative game to be played as a curtain-raiser to the senior fixture at Taihape, but owing to certain difficulties this game could not be accepted and it was decided to ask Taihape to suggest another date later in the season. Mr. E. Pickford was appointed manager to the senior team and Mr. G. M. Cormack the thirds.
A third grade (open) Possibles v. Probables match is to be played at Marton on June 11 to assist the selector, Mr. K. Kerr, to select his team for the Taihape match the following Saturday. There will be no third grade (open) competition matches on either June 11 or 18. On June 18 when the senior representatives are in Taihape it was decided to play the annual match between North and South Rangitikei at Marton for the Glenn Cup. Ohingaiti, Hunterville, and Rata will comprise the North team and Athletic, Old Boys, Rangatahi, and Bulls the South fifteen.
The Oroua sub-Union wrote requesting senior and third grade representative matches against Rangitikei at Kimbolton early it. August and a junior match in Rangitikei on the same date. It was decided to suggest to Oroua that the games at Kimbolton be played on Saturday, July 30 (race day in Marton) and that the junior match be played at Bulls on the same day. In order to give the senior- reps, as much practice before the Beddington Shield game as possible, it was decided to. ask Manav/atu to play the annual match between Rangitikei and the Manawatu Colts on Saturday, August 6. FAILING TO GIVE WAY AT INTERSECTION Defendant failed to give way to traffic approaching from the right and the left and drove between two cars, a collision being narrowly averted, said the Traffic Inspector, Mr. W. C. Shaw, in the Marton Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning, when prosecuting Hector Dawbin Bushby for failing to give way at an intersection by a turning vehicle. Thi magistrate, Mr. A. Coleman, imposed a fine of £2 (costs 12s). The Inspector said he was stationed at the corner of Wellington Road and Station Street when defendant, coming from the direction of the railway station, committed the offence.
