FOREIGN MINISTERS IN PARIS TALKS ON BERLIN DISPUTE

PARIS, June 1 (Rec A 11.40 pm).— Mr. Bevin, Mr. Acheson and M. Schuman held another private meeting in Paris this morning. The four Foreign Ministers will probably take up the question of a Four-Power Government of Berlin and the EastWest currency dispute this afternoon. MostWestci n Conference officials regard the past week’s abortive discussion of the German unity problem as finished, at least for the time being.

LONDON, June 1 (Rec. 7.10 p.m.)— The special correspondent of the “Times” says it is assumed that the Council of Foreign Ministers has now dropped the question of the political and economic unity of Germany for this session. Today they are expected to proceed to the second item on the agenda, namely, Berlin and the currency question.

It may emerge from the discussion that Russia wants some arrangement to facilitate exports to the Eastern Zone from Western Germany and that to get them she is prepared to make concessions in Berlin, but last night the Western delegation circles were not in a mood to hope for anything reasonable from Mr. Vishinsky. The third item on the agenda, namely, preparation of a peace treaty, appears to be of academic interest in view of Russia’s refusal to have a German Government with which to conclude a treaty. The fourth and last item is Austria, and there is still no indication of what Mr. Vishinsky thinks about that.
