LIGHTNING CAUSES FIRE, DESTROYING HALF-MILLION BOMBS
LONDON, June 1 (Recd. 7.45 pm). —Lightning is believed to have caused a fire which last night destroyed more than half a milion incendiary bombs at an R.A.F. bomb dump on the moors near Buxton, Derbyshire. The glow could be seen in Manchester. 20 miles away, and th e heat was so fierce that sightseers were not allowed nearer than a quarter of a mile. Teams of airmen built walls of turf between the burning incendiaries and high explosive bombs stored nearby. Fire units attended from a wide area and ambulances stood by, but (here were no casualties.
