Wanganui sits up and takes notice of its sporting representatives on tour—Peter Henderson and Keith Gudsell, in the All Blacks, and Harry Cave in the cricket team in England. And. sitting up this morning Wanganui was refreshed at hearing that a 12st. lOlbs. piece of Spriggens Park* had crashed over the line at the famous Newlands Rugby ground in Capetown to score the first try of the All Blacks’ tour of South Africa. “Ata boy, Kaierau!” said all the listening maroons. Technical Old Boys are waiting to say “Ata Boy Tech," when Gudsell gets his chance, though the probability of him actually scoring tries is not nearly so great as in Henderson’s case. That try rekindlled memory as to who had taken the first wicket in the cricket tour of Eng? land—was it 4*ave? He did not take it, though he had a hand in it. He caught a ball bowled by Cresswell against Yorkshire at Bradford, and Halliday's wicket, when he was 14 and the Yorkshire total stood at 32, was New Zealand’s first capture.
