WAIMARINO WIN KIRPATRICK CUP BY NARROW MARGIN The first inter-club match between ladies’ teams of six-aside tor the handsome cup recently donated by Mr. S. D. Kirkpatrick, president or the Taihape Golt Club, was played on the Raukura links during the weekend, between Taihape and Waimarino and resulted in a win for the 1 visitors by live matches to four, after ■i a very keen contest. A feature of the event was the epic foursomes match between Mrs. Kincaid and Miss A. Spooner (Taihape) and Mrs. Towler and Miss Legge (Waimarino), which went to the 16111,

lour extra holes being necessary before victory finally went to the Waimarino pair. Honours were even in the singles, each side winning three matches but Waimarino won two out of the three foursomes and thus carried off the Kirkpatrick Cup. Mrs. Towler, Waimarino's top lady, played exceptionally well to defeat Mrs. Kincaid, 5 and 3. All games were played in a spirit of friendly rivalry and good fellowship and the day proved most enjoyable from every point of view. The visitors were hospitably entertained by members of the Taihape Ladies’ Golf Club. At the conclusion of play, Mrs. C. Bradley, captain of the Taihape Ladies Golf Club, thaned Mr. Kirkpatrick lor presenting the trophy and said she was sorry to see it go from Taihape, but at the same time she wished to congratulate Waimarino on their win. They had put in a challenge eatly and “started the ball rolling ’ and it would not be long before Taihape would visit Waimarino in the hope of getting the trophy back. Miss Bradley then presented the trophy to Mrs. Towler, captain of the Waimarino team. Mr. Kirkpatrick raised a laugh when he said that he was glad Waimarino had won but at the same time he was sorry Taihape had lost. He was sure Taihape would lose* no time in challenging for the trophy. Competitions of this kind promoted good fellowship and friendly rivalry and he felt sure that both sides would look forward to the next contest with pleasurable anticipation. (Applause). Mrs. Towler, the Waimarino captain, in accepting the trophy said, “This is a great moment for us and we are greatly thrilled. We will look forward to the next match for the Kirkpatrick Cup with very much pleasure. We wish to thank the Taihape ladies for their wonderful hospitality which has macle our visit so enjoyable.’’ RESULTS OF GAMES. Results are as follows: Foursomes.—Mrs. Towler and Miss Legge (Waimarino) defeated Mrs. Kincaid and Miss A. Spooner (Taihape), 1 up at the 16th; Mrs. Morris and Miss P. Olliver (Taihape) defeated Mrs. Windle and Miss Manson (Waimarino), 4 and 3; Mrs. Baird and Mrs. Upton (Waimarino) defeated Mrs. Bales and Mrs. J. Cottrell (Taihape), 2 up. Singles.—Mrs. Kincaid lost to Mrs. Towler, 5 and 3; Miss A. Spooner defeated Miss Legge, 5 and 3; Mi’s. Morris lost to Mrs. Windle, 4 and 2; Miss P. Olliver defeated Miss Manson, b and 1; Mrs. Bqles lost to Mrs. Baird, 4 and 3; Mrs. Cottrell defeated Mrs Upton, 2 and 1. 1 otals. Taihape 4 wins, Waimarino 5 wins.
