ACCEPTANCES LISTED FOR OPENING DAY OF WANGANUI MEETING
When acceptances were taken last i evening for the opening day of the , Wanganui Jockey Club’s winter meet- : ing to be held next Saturday and Monday, there were ten engaged In , Grandstand Steeplechase, including ( First Act. Winner of the Te Rapa and , King Country Steeplechases at tne , Waikato meeting. In the Century Hurdles there are 17 acceptors, and the other jumping race, the Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase, has drawn an acceptance of 18. The field for th e Connolly Handicap numbers 21, and as this exceeds the safety number by one only, the committee has arranged that one ox the seven horses on the minimum will be balloted out on Saturday morning unless there is a scratching before that time. The worded the provision thus: “If on the morning of the meeting there is not one scratching in this event, thereby reducing the field to th e safety number of starters, Ihen the committee will hold a ballot i to eliminate one of the horses on the I minimum weight.” I Provision has been made for divisions in the Trial Plate, with 26 ac- ' ceptors. the safety number being 22.
