OVER 10,000 STATE HOUSES ALLOCATED TO EX-SERVICEMEN

During March a further 298 State housing tenancies were allocated under the system whereby at least half of all hewly vacant or newly built State rental houses and flats go to exservicemen. This brought the total number so allocated until the end of that month to 10,256. Rehabilitation housing committees in each centre make the allocations on a basis of relative urgency. Allocations to ex-servicemen in the various districts are given belw, those for March being shown in parenthe-ses:—Auckland-North Auckland, 2983 (84); Waikato-Bay of Plenty, 824 (31); Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay, 503 (36); Taranaki, 303 (7); Wellington Province 3463 (63); Nelson, Marlborough, Westland, 275 (9); Canterbury Province, 1147 (55); Otago Province, 541 (8); Southland, 217 (5).
