Uncertainty Of Future Supplies Of Dried Fruits Causes Concern
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— The uncertainty of future supplies of dried fruits used in the baking trade, was viewed with concern at today’s session of the annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Bakers and Pastrycooks. The meeting noted particularly that reports had been received of crop failures in Australia. In view of this, the federation decided to instruct its council to seek an assurance from the Government that ah other avenues of supply of dried fruit would be explored. It was stated by one member that he understood some supplies may be secured from South Africa. ,
The quality of New Zealand-made egg pulp supplied to the baking trade, was criticised. It was stated by one member that his firm had found that almost, every third tin of New Zea land pulp was unfit for human con sumption, and had to be destroyed. Instances were quoted where foreign matter of an objectionable nature had been found in the pulp. It was decided that the conference should make representations through its council Jo the appropriate authorities for improvements in the preparations and distribution of pulp.
