NOTES AND COMMENTS

(Contributed) Noticed on the basketball courts last Saturday was an infringement Dy a “centre-centre” taking her toe off the line when about to pass the oall from the throw-off. When the whistle blows for the game to commence or recommence after a successful shot at goal, the centre-centre taking the pass must keep her toe on the line until she has passed the ball. The player may take a step with the other foot if she so desires out she must not- take her toe off the line. The ball must be passed within three seconds. Referees must be strict on the stepping rule, especially in the forward third. Some players last Saturday were allowed to take tw'o steps. Forward should try to rectify this habit. Some players are inclined to think that the referee is being unduly hard when penalised for this infringement. After an unsuccessful shot at goal the player throwing-in does not wait for the whistle but throws in immediately she is in position to do so. Waiting for the whistle to be blown has been eliminated from the rules, and will assist in speeding up the game. Mr E. Lewis has offered to select the third-grade representative team this season
