(N.Z.P.A.—CopyriEht. > BERLIN, May 5 (Recd. 6pm)..—The United States would have to continue occupying Germany for another five to 20 years, said General Clay, United States Military Governor. “I believe that after the establi hment of a Government the control exercised by the occupation authorities should be tailed off fairly rapidly until there remains but me essential control—to ensure that the Germans live up to their own constitution.’ he said The democratisation programme had succeded because all that had been done had come in some way from the Germans themselves. It would be hard for counter elements to take away leadership from men who had gained it in this period.
