SANDY’S CORNER

SOMETHING LIFTED At least something has been lifted —the blockade of Berlin When, we wonder, will the burden of taxation be lifted in the Socialist Isles? THE FEW AGAIN. British and United States airmen played a big part in the lifting of the Berlin blockade. They defeated it. Another case of the many owing so much to so few. TRYING THE DEPTHS It is renoited that anglers are anxious to try their luck in Virginia Lake. Supposed to be bottomless (more or less), Virginia waters are something of a mystery to Wanganui folk, beautiful tliougii they are. If anglers get going the catches will be of bottomless dimensions. It is even likely they will fish up the cart and team of horses that disappeared into the lake about 65 years ago! THE GIRLS’ COLLEGE, Two hits at Ihe Wanganui Girls’ College were made, in good-natured banter, at the performance of the “Runaway Girl’’ last night. John D. Tizard, cast as “Brotner Tamarind.” appeared in a ridiculous ballet frock, I lull-busted and pink. When the laughter had died down he asked whether anyone would “present him” at tonight’s ball. Jimmie Mack- cast as "Flipper," the jockey who has been made a courier, said tc Fayette Rountree, his sweetheart oi the play: “Do you see that building over there?" "Yes,” replied the girl. "That’s wonderful." Flipper replied, "because it is the new Girls' Coliege and hasn't been built yet!”
