Interesting Gallops On fracks At Hawera

HAWERA. Last Night.—With large fields engaged at tne opening day of the Egmont Racing Club's winter meeting on Saturday, there was a good deal of interest in training operations on the Hawera tracks this morning, and this was added to by the number of visiting horses. The sting was out of the going on the plough and the outside of the course proper, where the trestles were out about 35ft. ON THE PLOUGH White Diamond (George) sprinteu three furlongs in 372. He is io make his debut in open company on Saturday and the Tneia gelaing may make his presence felt on trie i..,nimum. He finished well under 9.0 to run third in his second appearance at Waverley. Bramerton (Mosely) traversed five (furlongs in 1.3 i. He is still a good track galloper, but his form at Feilding was below expectations. War Admiral (Mills) covered u round at a working gallop. He was bandaged on a hind leg, but the injury is not serious. War Admiral is now racing consistently. General Saleve tMosely) completed half a mile in 53. Sir Royal was let off with pacework. He may be tried over a distance In the Mcßae Handicap on Saturday, and judging by the manner in which he has been finishing on lately, the Tiderace gelding should not be disgraced. Phanion (Mills) secured an advantage at the start of five furlongs with Mangatiti (Clutterouck?, but the pair finished on terms nt 1.5 2-5. The latter is big in condition and he may be in need of a race. He seems best suited by heavy tracks, and with the benefit of a couple oi outings he will be in great order tor engagements ahead. Phanion looks well. Robin’s Reward (N. McKenzie,, Reignon (Thurston) and Law and Order (McLaughlin, lan seven tur. longs easily in I.Jo 4-5. Robin's Reward required time to warm up. but he finished on in great style. He looks very robust following a let-up, but will not take long to fine down.

Gay Rosina (Clutrerbuciv) and Pahera Chief (G. Cameron) ran an easy three furlongs in 374. The latte, is a good stamp of Te Hero three-year-old, who has not yet raced this season, but displays more than average ability. Great Queen (B. George) and Peter Theio (Moore) ran the last three furlongs of a round of pacevvork in 40 1-5. Great Queen is coming to hand well. Early Bird tThur.ston) and Takapo (Clutterbuck > completed five furlongs in 1.4. Takapo raced prominently at Waverley while nis condition lasted, and he should oe Improved by that race, when he was beaten on the post for third by Royal Drake. White Cliffs (Murray) finished cleat of Dawn March (George), with Salphos (Vaughan) tiring badly, at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.19. Both White Cliffs and Dawn March should be all the better for their Waverley outing. They are lazy gallopers, who require vigorous hot semen. Atomic (Thurston) and Knight Templar (Vaughan) 'traversed six furlongs nicely in 1.17 4-5. Atomic surprised by his forward display at Waverley. and if the track remains hrm he will not lack friends in tne Hawera Handicap. H e requires a strong rider. Knight Templar suffered a kick above the knee yesterday, but the injury will not prevent him from contesting the Mcßae Handicap. ON THE COURSE PROPER

Ozami (Vaughan) reeled off five furlongs<n 1.4. A highly strung Nizami three-year-old, he is endowed with all the speed uf his sire’s progeny, but seems to require freshening up after each, success. He easily cleared out from the open sprinters at Waverley, but he was favoured by the soft going. Red Hero (Vaughan) shaded Graeme’s Joy (George) at the conclusion of an easy half-mile in 52 1-5. Red Hero has thrived during his southern trip and the Te Hero colt snould take a lot or beating in the Juvenile Handicap.. Oerlikon (MarKwjcx) and Justice (Collett) finished on terms, a couple of lengths ahead of Lord Pilot (Clutterbuck) at th e enn of seven furlongs in 1.34 J. Vanity Fair (Markwick) defeated Turin (Clutterbuck) ever five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. Papawhero (Clutterbuck) and Beau Flight (Mills) ran uie same distance in 1.6. Black Elf (Thurston; traversed half a mile in 51 1-5. A compact filly by the little known imported sire Mario, she is to make her debut on Saturday. Black Elf has shown a lot of pace in private. Lady Quick (Clutterbuck) and Aquilio (Thurston) finished together, clear of Robana (George) at the close of half a mile in 51L The latter was not knocked about when he dropped in behind entering ine straight, and there was little room for him to get through between the pair near the finish. Defence (George) can three furlongs under a firm hold in 38. He is an improving two-year-old, who was unlucky not to win a race at Feilding. Travel King (Markwick) ran naK a mile easily in 52. He bears a healthy appearance. Most or his best performances nave been reeoraed on his home track. Master McGrath aas gone amiss slightly and he will not be a starter in the Tawhiti Hack Handicap.
