Trial Of Maori On Triple Murder Charge Listed For Next Week
MARTON, Last Night (OC).—The trial of John Reremoana Tume, on three charges of murder, adjourned from the February sessions when the Court was informed that Tume had been admitted to a mental institution for observation, is set down for the quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court, Palmerston North, which open on Tuesday. Tume is charged with the murder of two European women and a halfcast Maori boy at Onepuhi on the night, of December 28, 1948. Another criminal case to come before the se-vidns will be that of Leo Sylvester Hannan, who is charged with breaking, entering and theft. Hannan pleaded not guilty in the Marton Court last month when he was charged with breaking and entering Sutcliffe’s Cash Drapers, Marton, and stealing the sum of £24, and was committed for trial.
