FACTORY WORK DONE IN PRIVATE HOMES
WELLINGTON, Last Night (P.A.) —The practice adopted by the Department of Labour and Employment in respect of the issue under the Factories Act of outworkers’ licences for work performed in private homes V as outlined in a statement today by the Minister of Labour, Mr. McLagc.ii. Work of any description for the occupier of a factory (or for a nr. rchant, wholesale dealer, shopkeeper, agent or distributor) elsewhere th. n in a registered factory may be performed only in accordance with toe provisions of the Act. which make it an offence to give out work except under licence. No licence is gran _d unless the applicant for the licence is in necessitous circumstances, or is, tor special reasons, unable to work in a factory and the department is sa <- tied with the conditions and with the remuneration offered. The department In'future will not issue any outworkers' licences (including renewals) without first consulting the appropriate unions of employers and workers, the Minis r said, and the department would take a serious view of any breaches oi to. 1 Act relating to outworkers’ licences.
