Resignation Of U.S. Army Secretary Said To Be Imminent

NEW YORK, April 19 (Recd 7.5 pm).—According to the “Daily News” the secretary of the Army, Mr. Kenneth Royall, has submitted his resignation to President Truman and the President is planning to appoint as his successor a “utilities magnate,” Mr. Curtis Calder. Mr. Calder is chairman of the Electric Bond and Share Company and director of many other companies. Mr. Royall, in effect, confirmed that his resignation was not far away, when he said today, in testimony before a Senate sub-com-mittee. that his successor might have to make a decision on the matter under discussion.
