Winners And Losers TAIHAPE, Last Night (OC).—“The losers of today are often the winner! of tomorrow,” said Rev. Father Doolaghty, congratulating competitors on their success at the Omatane sports on Saturday. Incidentally, it might be mentioned that the club's thoughtfulness in providing seating accommodation was very much appreciated by patrons.

Harris, of Papanui, has won nearly 1800 in prize-money, which is believed to be a New Zealand record. The ladies’ annual tourney is set down for September 18, while the men's annual tournament will be played on October 15 and 16. Closing day has been fixed for Saturday, October 29. The first round of the Shergold and Stratson Cups (medal competition) is due to be played on April 23. PERSONAL. Mr. E. L. Egarr, registrar of the Taihape Magistrate s Court, resumed duty yesterday after a holiday in the South Island and Taranaki. Mr. B. C. Ryall, who was relieving Mr. Egarr at Taihape, has left for Auckland under transfer from Wellington.

Competing in the chopping events at the Rangataua sports on Easter Monday, G. A. Campbell, of Taihape, was placed second in two events, the second-class chop and the 14-inch underhand chop. “Dan” O'Neill has travelled far up the police ladder of promotion since lie was sergeant in charge of the Taihape Police Station several years ago, and he is now very near the top in his present position of superintendent of the Wellington Police district. He has served in many parti, of the country, including Dunedin, Wellington, Taihape, Onehunga, Hastings and Christchurch.
