MELBOURNE, April 17 (Recd. 7.40 pm).—The three-year-old Ungar defeated the best Melbourne sprinters in ■ the £3OOO Victoria Handicap at Flemington yesterday. He raced through ;cn the inside alter entering the straight to defeat the South Australian Beau Gem, with the unlucky New Zealander Ellerslie a close third. Ellerslie was boxed soon after the start and forced back to near the last. He was checked again at the top o2 the straight and after-cards his saddle was found to have slipped. Results:— Easter Handicap.—New Cashmere 8.9 (Bougoure) 1, Royal Title 7.13 (Eames) 2, Chatspa 8.9 (Phillips) 3. Thirteen started. Half-head; halflength. Time, 2.8. Victoria Handicap. —Ungar 8.9 (Barclay) 1, Beau Gem 8.11 (Heather) 2. Ellerslie 8.8 (Bougoure) 3. Eighteen started. Neck; half-neck. Time, 1.24?.
