Wanganui Pirates Win Easily
Wanganui Pirates will play Kia Toa (Palmerston North) today in the final of the annual quadrangular Rugby Football tournament now being played at Palmerston North. On Saturday Wanganui Pirates defeated Napier Pirates 26-0 and Kia Toa defeated Hawera 5-3. The tournament will be concluded today. In their match against Wanganui the Napier team put up a creditable showing, but they were unable to match the experience of the winners. Wanganui at all times played as a scoring unit and some spectacular moves were made when the first fiveeighth Les Head used his great pace and showed smart penetration. In the main the Napier players tackled soundly, but the experienced and heavy Wanganui pack and the powerful boot of Beard repeatedly
gave the winners valuable breathing space. Pedley, Beard and Bell led the Wanganui forwards in a number of powerful rushes. Wanganui scorers were:—Les Head, J. Taunton, N. Anderson, D. Beard and V. Bell tries; D. Beard 3 conversions, R. Head conversion; Beard, a penalty.
