SIR PETER BUCK IS CRITICAL OF LIBERAL PARTI, P RAISES LABOUR
HONOLULU, April 16 (Recd. 6 pm). —The New Zealander, Si r Peter Buck, who recently returned from a visit to the Dominion, told an Institute of Pacific Relations meeting that the future of New Zealand would be a mixture of European and Maori blood combining the best features of each. Sir Peter Buck, who is a noted scientist of Irish and Maori blood, credited the New Zealand Labour Party for many of the striking advances made by the Maori people since he left the Dominion in 1927. He said: "My own Liberal Party was short-sighted and parsimonious. The Maoris suffered as a result. Since then the Maoris have made incredible strides, fo r which I credit the Labour Party.’’
The Swedish Royal Order of the North Star was recently conferred on ■Sir Peter Buck. The honour, which js the highest awarded by Sweden to a foreign civilian, is given for services to science and literature.
