Today's Sporting Attractions
Main sporting attraction in Wanganui today will be the annual sports and old boys’ reunion at the Wanganui Collegiate School. In preparation for the opening o£ the Wanganui Rugby Union competition on April 23, local teams will bo playing friendly matches with outside clubs. The only football to be played in Wanganui today will be at Spriggens Paris, when the Wanganui and Old Boys’ Club will play senior and junior matches against teams from the Feilding Old Boys’ Club. The Wanganui Bowling Centre's Eastei- tournament will be continued on six city greens. The St. John’s Tennis Club’s annual hard-court tournament and the Castlecliff Golf Club's annual tournament will also be continued. Commencing at 10.45 a.m. the Omatane sports will be held-at “Potaka,” Omatane. Children's pony events, hack events, jutnping competitions, chopping, sawing, Highland dancing, and novelty events will take place. The first annual sports meeting to be sponsored by the Ngarauru Maori Sports Club will take place at Waitotara. Horse and novelty events, Maori items and running races will be held.
The ten-aside football tournament sponsored by the Whangaehu Rugby Football Club will commence at Whangaehu at 11 a.m. A teams' tug-o’-war contest will also be decided there.
