SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. A. McPhail and Miss McPhail, St. John’s Hill, return today from a visit to Dawson Falls. Mrs. Blair Higgle, of Deniair, Fordell, has returned after a holiday spent in the Ohakune district. Miss Jill Beauchamp, Glasgow Street, left yesterday to spend Easter at Tokaanu. Mrs. W. R. McElwain, Bell Street, has returned by plane after several weeks spent in Australia. Mrs. Keith F. Budle, of Rotorua, with her family will arrive by car tomorrow to spend Easter with hetmother, Mrs. G. Nelson, St. Hill Street. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McCaul, Lilliton Street, are leaving by the Wanganella from Auckland for a threemonths* visit to Victoria, where Mrs. McCaul will renew acquaintances with old friends and relatives. Lili Kraus, whose piano recitals in this country are still vividly remembered, recently arrived in South Africa to take up her appointment for a term as a professor at the College of Music in Cape Town. Opportunity was taken at a social evening held on Monday night by the Business and Professional Women's Club of the Wanganui Y.W.C.A. to farewell the General Secretary, Miss F. V. Sim, before her departure for England and Geneva this month. The members wished her “bon voyage" and good luck in her new sphere. For the club, a small presentation was made by the president, Dr. Mo.he Christie. Miss Sim suitably replied. (Card Evening. At the fortnightly card evening held on Tuesday by the Gonville branch oi >the National Party, the players at the winning table were Mrs. Dashfild, Miss D. Reid, Mr. McLeay and Mr. Lorentzen. Competition winners were Mrs A. Whitcombe and Mr. McLeahy. Junior Red Cross Director. The successor to Miss E. M. Hadfield as director of the Junior Red Cross is Miss Pamela Paterson, ot Wellington. An old girl of Marsden School. Miss Paterson attended Victoria University, and was secretary of the Students’ Association during that time. She is a trained VA and served in the Wrens during the war. This week Miss Paterson will travel to Auckland with the portfolio of New Zealand made by members of the Junior Red Cross for Princess Margaret. She is to present it to Her Excellency Lady Freyberg, who will forward it to the Princess.
