Fordell Institute

At the March meeting of the Fordell W.1., Mrs. Lee, the president, welcomed a fai r attendance of members and friends in the Presbyterian Social Hall. The motto was read and Miss R. Flyger took the Golden Thread, choosing for her subject the “Pyramids of Egypt.” Letters were read from recipients of food parcels which recently arrived in England. During the past year over 36 parcels, costing approximately £3O, have been packed and dispatched overseas. The total amount being raised by special effort on the part of Fordell members. Great credit is due to Mrs. Lee, who is retiring after four years’ valuable service as president. Her untiring efforts to see well-prepared parcels leaving the branch every month has been a great inspiration to all, to keep up the good work, of food lor the needy in Britain. Sixty warm garments for C.0.R.5.0. have also been forwarded. Under the care of Miss Barnes, the collection of fat goes steadily on. The annual report was ably written and presented by Mi'S. Power, who also wrote the 3-minute report for the forth-coming council meeting to be held shortly. Competitions lor the above day, are as follows: 12 chrysanthemums, a worked handkerchief, and a collection of jams and jellies in small pots, to be distributed to aged in hospitals. Members are asked to bring same, to the birthday meeting, to be held on the third Tuesday in April, also any article for selling on the stall to aid the food parcel Hind that day. Mrs. Bruce kindly consented to nomination for the Federation Committee. After the balance-sheet had been presented, Mrs. Lee, in a happy vein thanked all committee members for the team work during his years of office. Also Mr. Jamison, who audited the books, so willingly. A letter of thanks has been forwarded to Mr. Flyger, who so kindly seals fats for the parcels. The election of ollicers for the coming year, proceeded in a brisk manner and later in the afternoon Mrs. Randell the newly appointed president, held a short committee meeting. A delicious cup of tea was served and a social half hou r ensued. The meeting closed with singing the National Anthem. Competitions resulted; three miniature cactus dahlias, Mrs. Rowan 1, Mrs. Bruce 2, Mrs. Christie 3; bottle of tomato sauce, Mrs. Rowan 1, Mrs. Morgan 2, Mrs. Hucker 3.
