THOUSANDS SEE NEW ZEALAND SPEED BOAT CHAMPIONSHIPS

WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).— Lining Evans Bay foreshore and any vantage point that could be round thousands of spectators were treated to a fine display of speedboat racing and rough water riding by contestants in the New Zealand speedboat championships on Saturday afternoon. Highlights of the regatta were capsizing of Miss Foxton in -the first race and the failure of the favourite, Barracuda, to finish any race, and the winning by Auckland 01 all three places in the hydroplane champion--ship and the fine performances of the

Super Sonic and later sinking after striking a submerged object during the last race. The contestants came from all over New Zealand although the South Island was poorly represented, only three southern boats being entered for the contest. Conditions were such that no really fast times were returned. The strong northerly wind and rough sea were such that the out-board-motor events had to be called

off. All races were over a distance of three miles.
