Pipe Band To Welcome Back Single Direct
AUCKLAND, Yesterday (PA).— Cheering crowds lined the main street of Te Awamutu on Saturday night to welcome home the pacer Single Direct on his return from Adelaide, where he won the 1949 inter-Dominion trotting championship. Preceded by the Hamilton Pipe Band and the Rochdale girls’ marching team, Single Direct looked remarkably well for a horse who had just completed a 1500-mile journey after a hard racing programme.
