Man Who Drove Car After Reunion Fined For Intoxication
After attending a reunion of former prisoners of war in Wanganui on Saturday night, Graham Kelly King, waterside worker, Auckland, aged 32, drove a car down St. Hill Street and failed to give way to a taxi at. the Guyton Street intersection- where a collision occurred. This was stated in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday when King appeared before Mr J. H. Salmon. S.M., and admitted being intoxicated while in charge of a carHe was lined £l5 and his driving licence was cancelled for 12 months. Senior-Sergeant. F. Culloty, whb prosecuted, said that the accident concurred at 11.10 p.m. Accused wak taken to the Central Police Station and certified by Dr..D. W. McGregoi 4 as being unfit to drive. King had no previous convictions. This was an unfortunate incident because defendant, a former prisoner of war in Germany- was married with two children. He came to Wanganui with two friends to attend a reunion. “There was liquor at the reunion, and unufortunately, as he admits, he did have too much to drink,” Mr Treadwell said. When he got into the car, howeverKing considered he was fit to drive, and his speed when the accident occurred was only 15 to 20 miles an hourKing was lined £l5 and was also ordered to pay £1 Is medical expenses.
