CHINESE COMMUNISTS SET DATE FOR TALKS
NANKING, March 27.—A Nationalist peace delegation is flying to Peiping next Thursday to begin negotiations with the Communists, following a Communist broadcast last night fixing the time and place for peace talks. The President, Li Tsung-jen, told members of the Control Yuan that he hoped the peace talks can succeed, but there is a general feeling that there will be many difficulties and perhaps important, military operations along the Yangtze before peace is concluded. Nationalist forces counter-attacking the outer suburbs of Nanking are reported to have driven the Communists at least 10 miles out, and to be still pursuing them. Meanwhile, official reports state that the military authorities expect Communist guerrilla attacks in the near future on lines of communication south of the Yangtze between Nanking and Shanghai. The Nanking and Shanghai garrison headquarters have ordered the dependants of military personnel and Government organisations to evacuate 14 towns along the NankingShanghai railway.
